Cats Season: From Tehran’s Underground to Global Spotlight
Hailing originally from west side of Tehran, Iran; Cats Season has been making waves with their distinctive fusion of Deathcore and nu-metal. The lineup features Mostafa Goudarzi (Muphvsv) on vocals, Mahan Marhamati on rhythm guitars, Matin Azadi on bass, and Sina Ghadimipour on drums. Formed with a mission to challenge the boundaries of the genre, Cats Season has quickly distinguished themselves with their raw energy and innovative approach to music and visuals.
The band’s journey has been marked by resilience and defiance. In 2020, they faced severe repression when right-wing Islamists raided their studio, stealing their equipment and targeting their work. This violent act was part of a broader crackdown on metal music in Iran, which compelled Cats Season to leave their homeland. Despite these challenges, their resolve to continue their musical journey has only strengthened.
Cats Season’s upcoming release, the EP “Revolution,” represents a bold new chapter. This EP features seven tracks that blend their signature Deathcore intensity with fresh influences and elements. The standout track, “Grave of All Great Things,” has been mastered by the acclaimed Will Putney and will be complemented by a forthcoming music video, further amplifying its impact.
In addition to their music, Cats Season has established a strong presence with their underground shows and merchandise, which have been celebrated within Iran’s alternative culture. Their ongoing commitment to their art and their expanding global reach reflect their dedication to pushing boundaries and resonating with a wider audience.
